Local Notes: Tramore Park Run, the story of Bob Dylan, SVP news and Order of Malta
The music of Bob Dylan will be the focus of attention in Tramore
A huge thanks to our volunteers in Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps Tramore Unit who were busy over the festive period. Our ambulance corps members were on duty on Christmas Day swim and New Year’s Day races as well as assisting with patient transfers over the same period. The community first responders have been available to assist national ambulance service and the people of Tramore and the surrounding areas 24 hours a day all across the holidays, as well as throughout the year.

Dylan-mania is sweeping the country with the release of the new biopic, 'A Complete Unknown', starring Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan. Riding this wave, Waterford’s Derek Flynn kicks off 2025 with 'The Life & Songs of Bob Dylan', at the Coastguard Cultural Centre on January 25. Derek, a musician and writer, began his 'Life & Songs' series in 2023 with a Leonard Cohen tribute. Since then, he’s honoured Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, and Abba, alongside performers like Lauren Cardiff, Paula Weldon, and Dean Flynn. Bob Dylan was always a requested name, and now Derek is bringing his songs and story to life. The recent biopic has reignited interest in his legacy. Derek’s show will blend Dylan’s classic hits with stories from his life, making for an unforgettable evening. Tickets are available on the Theatre Vamps page at eventbrite.ie.
Danny Colbert is celebrating his success after receiving his 2st 7lbs (15.9kg) certificate recently at Tramore Slimming World. He couldn’t be prouder of his achievement and said: “From the moment I walked through those doors, I knew it was the best decision I had ever made. Everyone made me feel completely welcome, and I instantly felt I was in the right place”.
You can follow in his footsteps and achieve lasting results by joining one of the warm and friendly groups with Tracey O’Donoghue. The classes are held in Tramore Community Care Centre, Pond Road, on Tuesdays at 5pm or 6.30pm and Fridays at 7.30am or 9am. Classes are also held in Carrick-on-Suir in the Nano Nagle Community Care Centre on Wednesdays at 5.30pm or 7pm.
Tramore Parkrun recently celebrated nine amazing years of parkrun. A huge thank you to everyone who joined then – visitors, first-timers, and our wonderful volunteers who make it all happen. They are grateful to everyone who has been part of our Saturday mornings over the years. Special thanks to those who volunteer and keep things running smoothly. A big shoutout to Tadgh for the delicious biscuits at the finish, and happy birthday to Lesley. Congratulations to Kim on completing his 250th parkrun recently. Here’s to many more years ahead.
