The late Michael Baldwin
The death occurred on July 12, of Mr Michael Baldwin, Crooke, Passage East, and formerly of Dobbyn Street, Passagem in his 75th year. He passed away in UHW in the care of the wonderful staff in the Cherry and Oak Wards in the South East Palliative Care Centre. He was a former Managing Director of Pierce Engineering, Wexford, and a Financial Director of Waterford Stanley until quite recently. Michael was a member of Passage East Youth Club in the 1990's and also a member of the Senior Citizens Committee in Passage for a number of years. He was also a member of the Board of Management at Passage East National School. His remains reposed at his home in Crooke on Tuesday, July 15, and his Requiem Mass was in St John the Baptist Church, Crooke, Passage East on Wednesday, July 16. His Requiem Mass was celebrated by Very Rev P.J. Breen PP, assisted by Rt. Rev. Msgr Anthony O’Brien, PP, VG a family member from Mallow, hymns were sung by David Flynn with his own accompaniment. Michael’s son Neil gave a lovely eulogy describing the family man Michael was, his love of travel, walking his dogs, gardening, history and how helpful he was to others. Symbols of his life were the cap he always wore when out and about, the Irish Times paper he always read, a glass jar with sand from Beamish's Strand, Créadan where he walked his beloved dogs Aussie, Baloo and Mona. Readings were given by his daughter-in-law Liz and Aisling Millea, Prayers of the Faithful were read by cousin Jennifer Reynolds and friends of the family Paul Elliott, Louise Flynn, Sue O’Mahony Walsh and Eddie Phelan, Offertory gifts were brought to the Altar by his daughter-in-law Kelly Ann and his grandson Isaac. After mass Michael was laid to rest in Crooke Cemetery where again a large number of friends, work colleagues and neighbours attended. Predeceased by his parents John and Cissy Baldwin and his beloved sister Marian, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Theresa, his children Niamh, Lisa, Neil and Adam, granddaughter Lucy, grandsons Darragh, Isaac and Aaron, daughters in law Kelly Anne and Liz, son in law Jamie, his sister Michelle, brothers Thomas, Gerald, Raymond and Desmond. Masses in Crooke and Faithlegg Churches this week are: Wednesday, July 23 - Faithlegg 11.30am; Thursday, Juyl 24 - Crooke 10am; Saturday, July 26 - Faithlegg 6.30pm (Vigil Mass) and Sunday, July 27 - Crooke 11.30am.
On Sunday next July 27, our second Annual Family Fun Day is taking place in the village of Passage East. There will be a whole host of activities and entertainment for both young and old alike. It all begins at 2pm when the Mayor of Waterford Cllr Séamus Ryan will get proceedings underway. There will be children's games hosted by playful streets and lots of activities going on in the park simultaneously. A BBQ will also run in the afternoon and a bouncy castle and face-painting will add to the fun. Live music will take place from 4pm to 8pm and we are expecting a fly over from the rescue helicopter plus much more. All in all a great family day is planned. Can we please ask as many people as possible around the area to leave the car at home and walk to the village.

Some games played last week included Saturday, July 12 in Walsh Park, Passage met Mt Sion in the Senior Championship Round 1 and after Passage going two points up inside a minute Mt Sion then took over and eventually beat Passage by 2-24 to 1-11, with lots of great movement off the ball in contrast to Passage. On Friday last Passage were to meet Fourmilewater in Fraher Field, hopefully they can get back on track. The Junior A team were beaten in Dunhill by Ballygunner, and the minors drew at home to Ferrybank/ St Saviour's on Wednesday evening in Passage, in a thriller 5-9 to 3-1. Passage leading by 5 points late on. Games coming up as follows: minor fixture Wednesday, July 23, St Oliver's v Passage away 7.30pm; Thursday, July 24 - Junior A Passage v Mt Sion, with venue and time to be confirmed; Saturday, July 26 - Senior Hurling Lismore v Passage in Walsh Park 2.30pm; Sunday - Junior C Passage v Mt Sion in Passage 10.30am. Some juvenile news - last week Passage beat St Molleran's in U16 Division 3 and on Monday, July 28, U16 Division 3 Passage v St Patrick's in Passage at 7 pm.
