Waterford Harbour Sailing Club's success participated in the Leinster Championships on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, at Lough Ree. Over what was a very enjoyable weekend of sailing with wind, waves, gusts and sunshine, a large fleet of 420 boats assembled as part of the Double Ree festival of double handed sailing. A total of 18 boats competed. With six races over the two days by each boat, the Waterford Harbour Sailing Club's duo of Fionn Lynch, Knockroe, Passage East and Max Sweetman, collected the gold with two points to spare over Blessington/Malahide SC, in second place and Galway Bay SC in third.
It made it a great weekend for Waterford Harbour Sailing Club. Meanwhile, Niamh Lynch, a sister of Fionn, with Grace Kelliher, from Blenheim Heights , Waterford, were second in the Silver 420 Class behind Galway Bay Sailing Club who scored 32 points over six races to Waterford's 39. It was their first time in a regional or national competition.
