Local Notes: Sailing club success, mass times and GAA news

Mass times for the coming week in Crooke and Faithlegg are: Thursday, August 1 - Crooke (10am); Saturday, August 3 - Faithlegg (6.30pm); Sunday Vigil, August 4 - Crooke (11.30am. Again please note that Faithlegg Church is being renovated at the moment and only the Vigil Mass on Saturday goes ahead there. The Church is closed the rest of week until renovations are completed. Presently the Church looks very well and is painted outside.
Waterford Harbour Sailing Club's success participated in the Leinster Championships on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, at Lough Ree. Over what was a very enjoyable weekend of sailing with wind, waves, gusts and sunshine, a large fleet of 420 boats assembled as part of the Double Ree festival of double handed sailing. A total of 18 boats competed. With six races over the two days by each boat, the Waterford Harbour Sailing Club's duo of Fionn Lynch, Knockroe, Passage East and Max Sweetman, collected the gold with two points to spare over Blessington/Malahide SC, in second place and Galway Bay SC in third.
It made it a great weekend for Waterford Harbour Sailing Club. Meanwhile, Niamh Lynch, a sister of Fionn, with Grace Kelliher, from Blenheim Heights , Waterford, were second in the Silver 420 Class behind Galway Bay Sailing Club who scored 32 points over six races to Waterford's 39. It was their first time in a regional or national competition.
Passage were beaten narrowly by Mt Sion in Walsh Park in the Senior Hurling Championship League section on Friday week. It finished Mt Sion 1-21, Passage 1-17.Their next game is against De La Salle, in Walsh Park on Friday next at 7.30pm. Improvements in key areas are needed.
Some results of other games played recently included: July 19 - Junior A team beaten by De La Salle 2-17 to 1-13; Minors lost narrowly to Erins Own/ Sacred Heart in Passage by 2-13 to 2-10 on Wednesday last; U15 easily beat Cois Bhride in Passage on Thursday last.
Other fixtures coming up include: Wednesday, July 31 - minor team v Lismore, in Lismore at 7.30pm; Monday, August 5 - U13 v Cois Bhride in Passage at 7pm; Wednesday, August 7 - Passage minors v Clonea, in Passage at 7.30pm.
The GAA club's summer camp takes place from Monday, August 19 to 21. See Collectit.ie to book your spot. The July Monthly Draw will take place this Wednesday, July 31, in Furlong's at 7.30pm. Monies to be in by Tuesday .
