Portlaw Camogie Club

Delighted to have Ríona Shankey and her Scoil Mhuire teammates visit Portlaw NS recently to showcase their silverware. They brought the All-Ireland and Munster Final trophies along with the All-Ireland Final Player of the match award. Great to have past players and pupils returning to their roots, a massive achievement for all the girls involved. A great boost for the younger kids.

Registration is now open  and we are proud to announce we have made a step closer to our OneClub Integration by streamlining the membership for Camogie and LGFA. Both accounts have been joined on Foireann and one fee is in place to cover both. A fantastic morning was spent recently with the kick off of our Portlaw Women on the Move Initiative. This programme was funded by the Waterford Sports Partnership in conjunction with Women in sports week. Thanks to Flahavan's for kindly sponsoring flapjacks and Curran Foods for kindly sponsoring Water for the woman after their walk Sunday. We want to say thank you to all the women in the Portlaw Community for everything they do to keep our club going and our kids happy. We are very grateful to have your support. We go again this Sunday, March 15th, at 10am in Portlaw GAA walking track. We hope to see ye all there again.

Portlaw GAA Club

Great to see the continued growth of Gaelic games in our community with coaching sessions currently taking place in Portlaw National School. A big thank you to Gavin Whelan (GDC), Roisin Kirwan, and also to Shane and Harry Murphy, and Kenny Reade for giving their time to help out with the sessions. It’s fantastic to see the children learning new skills and enjoying their introduction to our games. We would also like to sincerely thank the staff of Portlaw National School for their ongoing support in helping to promote Gaelic games among the students. Your cooperation makes initiatives like this possible and helps strengthen the connection between the school and the club. A special word of thanks as well to Cllr Declan Clune who very kindly sponsored a brand new hurley with a Portlaw grip for every child in Junior Infants. This thoughtful gift marks the beginning of their journey with the Portlaw GAA, Camogie and LGFA club, and we hope it will inspire many happy years of playing and being part of our club community. We look forward to seeing these young players develop their skills and love for the games in the years ahead.

Congratulations

Everyone in Portlaw GAA, Camogie and LGFA is absolutely delighted to congratulate our Club Secretary and PRO, Leah Walsh, who was elected as the new Waterford GAA Communications Officer (PRO). This is a huge honour for Leah and for our club, and it is hugely deserved. Leah has been a fantastic servant to Portlaw GAA over the last number of years, always working tirelessly behind the scenes in the various roles. We have no doubt that she will bring the same energy and passion to her new role.

Leah now joins our other Portlaw representatives involved at county level — Michael O’Brien, who serves as Munster Council Delegate, and Paudie Coffey, who is Chairperson of the Walsh Park Infrastructure Committee. Portlaw has a proud tradition of providing officers and volunteers to both the County and Divisional Boards, and we are thrilled that Leah now continues that tradition by taking on this very important role. Congratulations Leah and the very best of luck — we know you will do a fantastic job.

New York Trip Fundraising

We decided not to proceed with the Cheltenham Fundraiser that had been planned  and anyone who has already entered will of course receive a full refund. We are nearly there with our fundraising for the upcoming New York trip, so a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the boys along the way. The boys themselves have put in fantastic effort, which will give them the opportunity of a lifetime to represent Portlaw and their club in the Big Apple. Instead of the Cheltenham fundraiser, we will focus on one or two final fundraisers involving the boys before turning our attention to preparing for the trip and representing Portlaw as best we can. Thanks again for the fantastic support.

St Patrick's Day Parade

On St Patrick's Day, Portlaw GAA Club, will walk as one club with Portlaw GAA and LGFA, in the Portlaw St. Patrick's Day Parade. All kids wear their Portlaw colours and meet at the church carpark at 11:40am.

On Friday, March 20th, Portlaw GAA Club will hold their Annual Awards night in the Clodagh Bar, Lounge. It will be a great night to appreciate the girl’s hard work in 2025. Juvenile Awards 5pm-7pm and Adult Awards 7pm-8pm.  All are welcome to attend to celebrate. There will be a DJ, dancing and finger food on the night.

Portlaw Regeneration Plans

All proposed plans to take our roundabout out of the Square to make way for the pedestrianised area which also means Georges St would then be a Cul de Sac. For those who do mind and have concerns you have until April 16th, at 4pm to put in a submission. This can be done online by following the link on the shared post below or in writing to: Conor O'Neill, Civic Offices, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Well Kids

A brilliant morning at Wellkids early Sunday morning with almost 50 kids in attendance. They trained so well, we were delighted to give them all an ice cream at the end as a reward. If your child is turning 4, 5 or 6 years old this year, we would love for you to join. Every Sunday morning at 10am at Portlaw GAA. It's 100 per cent free and registration is via https://www.cognitoforms.com/PortlawGAA/PortlawGAACamogieLGFAWellKidsNursery2026
