Passage Hurling

Congratulations to the Passage minor hurlers and their mentors Martin Murphy, Niall Flanagan and Sean Tracey (jnr) on the excellent win over St Patrick's in Bonmahon, on Wednesday last in the County League B final. In Division 1 of the County League, the seniors play Mt Sion in Mt Sion on Saturday, June 8, at 7 pm. Check locally on the day in case of a change. Winners in the monthly draw in May were composed of: 1st - Vinnie Keane, Crooke (€200); 2nd - David Walsh, Crooke Villa (€150); 3rd - Michael O'Grady, c/o Shane Lynch (€100); Gary Cullinane, Killea (€50).

The club now has the Deise Draw tickets with prizes of €10,000 (1st); €3000 (2nd); €2000 (3rd); €1000 (4th) and €500 for 5th to 8th while winners from 9th to 19th will win €250. Tickets cost €100 and the club gets 63 per cent out of each ticket sold. On the Inter-County scene Waterford seniors were beaten in their last Round Robin series match v Limerick, in Limerick, on Sunday week last by 0-30 points to 2-14 and with results elsewhere are out of this year's Championship.

Waterford, with our own Mark Fitzgerald at right half back, gave it their best effort and towards the last quarter of the game reduced the Limerick lead to two points but then Limerick went into another gear to win decisively, even allowing all the wides they incurred, including 14 in the first half. Several GAA pundits referred to Waterford's tactics on the day and Limerick being allowed too much freedom and space. Incidentally in the same game of the round robin series last year in Semple Stadium, Waterford - who lost Tadhg De Burca with an injury in the first half -went down by just two points to Limerick, their best effort in years v Limerick with the majority of this year's team on duty then also.

Deep Water Swim

The Annual Beat the Ferryman Enerpower-sponsored 600 metre Deep Water Swim Challenge from Ballyhack to Passage will take place on Sunday, June 16. The event is for competent swimmers over 15. Now just two weeks away, this year there are two major changes: No entries will be taken on the day either in Passage or Ballyhack and online entries close on Saturday, June 15, at 1pm to collectit.ie and the race briefing in Ballyhack will take place on the Quay before swimmers enter the water, as they come across on the ferry each time. The final ferry for swimmers for the race will be at 1pm. The race will begin at 1.30 pm to 1.45 pm, depending on weather on the day. The next swim meeting will take place on Wednesday of this week, at the clubhouse at 7.30 pm.
