Local Notes: Golf classic, local lotto, Easter camp, soccer news, church renovation and more

Our local community alert group will hold their last meeting of the season on Wednesday, April 9, at 8pm. The guest speaker on the night will be historian, Sile Murphy. The group take a break from meetings during the summer season but remain active and report any necessary information through their community text alert scheme. It is important to support your local group and so it would be lovely to see as many people as possible at the meeting.
The numbers drawn in the latest lotto draw were 11, 24, 25 and 27. The three lucky dip winners of €50 each were Grace McCormack, Patsy O'Donnell and Thomas O'Brien. The next draw will take place on Sunday, April 13, and there will be a fantastic jackpot of €12,500 on offer. Tickets cost just €2 each or three for €5 and can be purchased from any committee member, online or they will be on sale at Centra, in Kilmeaden, on Saturday, April 12.
If you are aged between 6 and 13, and would like to learn to cook some beautiful, tasty dishes, you are invited to take part in an Easter Cooking Camp. The camp will take place from April 14 to April 18 in Ballyduff Community Centre, from 10am to 1pm. The cost is €110 which will include all ingredients, equipment and recipes. Everything is cooked by the participants and they will bring their finished dishes home to enjoy and share with the family. Ballyduff AFC have released some very important dates in their annual calendar. Their popular Easter camp will take place from April 14 to April 18 and their Summer Camp will run from June 23 to June 27. These camps are very popular so check out the club’s Facebook page for booking details. If you would like to join the club’s development fund please contact any of the committee or check out details on their Facebook page. The proceeds of this draw will support the club’s upgrade plans which include a clubhouse extension and gym and all-weather pitch. The Ballyduff AFC women’s team is recruiting goalies, defenders, strikers and midfielders so if you are interested in training and playing competitive women’s football please contact the club on Facebook messenger or contact coach Carrie on 085 1046190.
The FAI Football initiative has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding programs in recent times. This program runs every Saturday morning in Ballyduff AFC grounds for an hour. It is proving to be very popular and more volunteers and coaches are needed. If you feel you may have an hour to spare, please contact Mike on 087 6910091.
The Well Kids program has returned for boys and girls aged 4-6 years and all are welcome to come along and join in the fun. It takes place every Saturday morning from 10am to 11am, at Tom Cheasty Park (X91YK07). No equipment is necessary.
Last year’s open golf classic proved to be a great success and the dates have been announced for this year’s event. Get those clubs ready and get your team organised. On Friday June 20, from 8am to 5pm, and Saturday, June 21, from 8am to 2pm, Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club will be the venue for the Ballyduff Lower, LGFA and Camogie Golf Classic. The registration for this years GAA Cul Camps have now opened. The Ballyduff camp will take place from July 21 to July 25. Book your place early as places fill very fast.
Trocaire boxes are now available in the church. We are all encouraged to take one home and do our best to give a little to those who are in great need and need our help and support. Please pick up a box from the church and we shall all try to make sacrifices during this season of Lent. Our parish choir rehearse every Wednesday evening in the church from 8pm to 9pm and are always on the lookout for new members. The choir really enhance our Sunday masses with their beautiful choice of hymns. Anniversary masses can be booked for your loved ones for any of the weekend masses. The Saturday evening mass takes place at 7.30pm and on Sunday mornings at 10am. If you would like to book a mass please contact Ann in the sacristy or Linda Spillane.
Our beautiful church needs some renovations and a plan has been put in place to raise the money needed. A cabaret night will take place on Saturday, April 12, in Ballyduff Community Centre at 8.15pm to provide information about the plans and suggestions will be taken of ways to raise the money needed. Mayor, Cllr Jason Murphy will officially launch the event. There will be music by Throwing Shapes and plenty of chats and laughs. There will be a €10 entry fee to kick off the fund. Please keep an eye out through these notes for further bank details and ways to contribute to the fund in the coming weeks.
