Local Notes: GAA raffle, soccer club awards, Park Regeneration Project and more in this area of Waterford
€300,000 has been secured under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for the Portlaw Park Regeneration Project.
We are delighted to share fantastic news for Portlaw that €300,000 has been secured under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for the Portlaw Park Regeneration Project, which will support the redesign and delivery of upgraded facilities of the park and playground. This funding should allow for completion of Zone 1 (playground) and possibly Zone 2 (Astro 5 a side) of our overall project.
The Park Development Sub-Committee is led by Derek Delaney and Victor Bowers with members Cllr. Declan Clune, Brian Barron, Niamh Tobin, Ray Murphy, Fred Kelly, Kieran Laffan and Jonnie Mullowney. The committee operates as a sub-committee under the Portlaw Community Enhancement Committee, which earlier this year also secured €1 million RRDF funding for the wider Portlaw Town Regeneration Project — a huge achievement for the community.

A special mention to Victor Bowers whose detailed drawings and professional advice was key to us being able to submit such a strong application. A sincere thank you to our elected representatives, particularly local Minister Mary Butler for the work that she put into this application alongside Minister Dara Calleary. Thanks to Cllr Declan Clune for his strong representations to Waterford City and County Council, and to Minister John Cummins for his continued support of Portlaw. Finally, thank you to Waterford City and County Council and its staff for their ongoing guidance and support, and to everyone in the community who continues to work to make Portlaw a better place for all. With Part 8 Planning permission already secured, we look forward to seeing work commence on this exciting project in the very near future.

A huge thank you to everyone who so generously donated to our recent food bank collection in aid of Waterford Helping the Homeless. The kindness and community spirit shown by our members, families, and friends has been fantastic. Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference to people in need across Waterford, especially at this time of year. We are incredibly proud of our club and what we can achieve when we come together for such an important cause. Thank you for supporting not just our club, but our wider community Ní neart go cur le chéile.
