Bereavement   

The death has sadly occurred on Thursday, July 24, 2025, of Mr John Higgins, Ashley Drive, Cherrymount, Waterford / Granard, Longford. Formerly The Cosy Thatch, Kilmeaden, Co. Waterford. Predeceased by his loving wife Philomena and sons-in-law Gary and Paul.

He is survived by his loving children, Gabriel, Michelle and Antonina. Will be sadly missed by his twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sisters Kitty, Rosie and Bridie, daughter-in-law Caroline, his extended family, neighbours and friends John will be sadly missed by all his relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Requiem Mass took place on Monday, July 28, in the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly, Waterford, at 12 noon, followed by burial in St Mary's Cemetery, Ballygunner, Waterford. 

Condolences are extended to John's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Bereavement   

The death has sadly occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2025, of Mrs Kathleen (Catherine) Taffe née Kavanagh, Kilcohan Park, Waterford, formerly of Costello’s Lane, Late of The Jute Factory.

Predeceased by her loving mother Jane, father John, brother John, sisters Bridget, Margaret, Alice and Mary (Nellie). 

She is survived by her loving husband David, son Niall, daughter Belinda, son-in-law Derek, grandsons Cameron, Ryan, Reece and Leon, granddaughter Codie, sisters Joan and Jean, brothers Paddy, Tommy and Edward, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. 

Kathleen will be sadly missed by all her relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends. 

Requiem Mass took place on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly, at 12:30pm, followed by burial in Kilbarry Cemetery. 

Condolences are extended to Kathleen's family, relatives and friends. 

May she rest in peace.    

Bereavement   

The death has sadly occurred on Friday, July 18, 2025, of Mr. James Pat Lynch (Jimmy, Seamus). St. John’s Park, Waterford, formerly of The Manor, Waterford. Late of Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail).  

Predeceased by his loving parents Jack and Catherine, brothers Jack, John, Tom and Jeremiah, and sister Sr. Cecelia (Kitty) Lynch. He is survived by his loving brother William (Liam) Lynch, sister Sr. Perpetua (Peggy) Lynch, sister-in-law Rosemary Lynch, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, relatives, wonderful neighbours and friends. 

James will be sadly missed by all his relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends. 

Requiem Mass took place in the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly, on Monday, July 21, at 12 noon, followed by burial in Faithlegg Cemetery. 

Condolences are extended to James' family, relatives and friends.

The death has sadly occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2025, of Mr. Brian Freeman, Orchard Drive, Ursuline Court, Waterford, formerly of Ferrybank, late of Teva Pharmaceuticals. 

Predeceased by his loving parents, Kevin and Mary and brother Jim.

He is survived by his loving partner Kitty, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Brian will be sadly missed by all his relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Requiem Mass took place on Friday, July 25, 2025, in the Sacred Heart Church, Ferrybank, at 9am. Brian’s cremation service took place on Friday, July 25, at 2pm in The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. 

Condolences are extended to Brian's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

South East Regional Family Support Network Bereavement Group 2025   

The bereavement support group provides a safe space for family members who have experienced the death of a loved one because of problem substance use or related issues.

The group is facilitated by two trained psychotherapists and will include respite and other opportunities that may be relevant. 

This is a free service specific to the South East Family Support Network. 

Commencing on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 10:30am to 12pm, and will continue for eight weeks at the Millennium Building, Church Road, Lisduggan, Waterford, X91 FN5V.

Butler Community Centre  

Erin's Own GAA Young Puckers -A great start to our Wednesday Young Puckers sessions, in the Butler Community Centre, with special guest Austin Gleeson lending a hand too! 

These 11am Wednesday Bootcamps will be a summer addition to the 12:15pm Saturday sessions over the next couple of weeks. 

Attendance is free, and new beginners born between 2019 and 2021 are all welcome. 

Qualified and vetted coaches, Parents and guardians welcome to join, plenty of fun and making new friends.

Pickleball is an indoor racket sport, a cross between tennis and badminton, but slower.

The Arts Office, Waterford City & County Council, is pleased to announce that entries are now being accepted for the Waterford Poetry Prize 2025. 

There is no age limit and no entry fee for the Waterford Poetry Prize 2025.

Summer Stars Free Reading Programme  

Summer Stars Free Reading Programme runs from now until August 31 in Waterford Libraries. 

Pick up your child’s Reading Card, complete it before August 31 and drop it back at your local library. 

Any child who completes the Summer Stars Reading Programme will receive a medal and certificate in October 2025.  

Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Waterford  

Sacred Heart Family Resource Centre, Waterford, will offer the Parents Plus Early ONLINE for you to access over the coming weeks. 

Parents of children ages 0-7 years.

Southside Motor Club and Cars and Coffee Waterford    

Are hosting a charity drive in aid of Bumbleance on Sunday, August 17, 2025. 

Cars can gather for Waterford's monthly cars and coffee, and will then depart approximately 1pm to head on a coastal scenic drive with an end location at Waterford Raceway for a few laps and photo opportunities. 

Bucket collection and Raffle on the day.

Registration fee €10 per car.

All funds raised on the day go to Bumbleance.
