Local Notes: Fittest school, local lotto and memorial tournament

Let’s go bananas for St.Mary’s National School, Touraneena. Worthy winners of the 2024 Fyffes sponsored Ireland’s Fittest School Competition.

Ireland’s Fittest School

The final of this year's Ireland’s Fittest School competition, sponsored by Fyffes, was held recently at Sport Ireland’s campus in Dublin. Four schools, representing counties of Waterford, Sligo, Tipperary and Cork, battled it out for the overall title and it was Waterford's St. Mary’s Touraneena National School, that came out on top by a healthy margin. The final scores were: St. Mary’s NS (840); Ballyhass NS (790); Presentation Clonmel NS (720) and Cliffoney NS (580).

Huge congratulations are extended to the pupils, their teachers and parents for such a great achievement. Not only were St Mary’s awarded the title of Ireland’s fittest school, the title also brought with it a wonderful prize of €5,000 towards sports equipment for the school. Well done to all involved.
