Portlaw Camogie club hosted a very successful underage blitz recently.

Open Day

The Dr Martin Day Centre in Portlaw is holding an Open Day on Saturday, June 15, between 2pm and 5pm.

We will be having some music and refreshments to celebrate our 12 years in operation this year. We are extending an invitation to you all to attend our Open Day event as someone who has contributed to our success through your support, work or service to the centre over the years.

In September the 12th anniversary will occur when we will celebrate 12 years in operation as a day centre providing essential services to the elderly and vulnerable people in our community.

The forthcoming event will be an opportunity for people in the wider community to visit the centre to see the activities and services that take place here and to view our premises as well as the new commercial kitchen that we developed last year.

The services provided to the community has far exceeded our expectations and we are proud to say that we have people travelling from up to 15km away to avail of them.

The services include morning teas and coffees served with a scone, three course dinner, afternoon tea and biscuits, as well as many other activities such as music, arts and crafts, games and exercise. For those unable to attend the centre we provide a meal-on-wheels service in the community.

We also provide chiropody and hairdressing services and the facility is available to local groups such as Red Cross, Active Retirement, Adult Learning & Education, Sewing and Knitting classes and a prayer group. We hope to see you on the 15th.

Portlaw Camogie

Portlaw Camogie club hosted an U8 and U10 blitz recently, welcoming teams from St Anne’s, Roanmore, and Modeligo. The girls played exceptionally well and had a lot of fun. A big thank you to our coaches for organizing the blitz.  Portlaw NS U11 camogie team excelled at Cumann Na mBunscol recently, finishing at the top of their group and advancing to the final.

The girls played brilliantly but were narrowly defeated in a hard-fought battle against St. Ursuline's in the final. We are very proud of all the girls, who are integral members of our camogie club.

Join us for a fun-filled quiz for our club on Friday, June 14. Quiz nights always promise laughter and camaraderie and everyone is welcome on the night.

10th Portlaw Scout Troop

Our Beavers had a brilliant time in Woodstown recently for their annual camp. The sun was shining and they had great fun on the beach getting sandy and muddy, singing their hearts out at the campfire before falling into bed exhausted but happy. Wonderful memories made. Thanks to our fantastic Cub leaders Ger, Niall and Julie for helping Edel and Michelle on the camp.

The troop's scouts, cubs and beavers also enjoyed a great trip to Fossetts Circus recently and a brilliant night of entertainment was had.

Portlaw Utd

Disappointing end to what has been a brilliant first season back in the Premier League with a 4-0 loss to Tramore in the Premier Cup semi-final.

We started really well and had 3 great chances to take the lead but couldn’t find the net. After that, four quick goals by Tramore before half time ended the game as a contest. In the second half our lads didn’t give up and again created some great chances but again, just a night we didn’t convert any of our chances. We wish Tramore all the best in the final.

It was fantastic for our club when 15-year-old Sam Croke made his Premier debut in Ozier Park. The first of many for sure. As a club we’d like to put on record our thanks to Michael Donnelly who has given so much to the club over the past two years, along with Mark, Nathan and Locky to have us competing at the top tier is brilliant for a club our size.

Our players have been fantastic this season, everything we have asked of them they have delivered and we thank them for representing our club so well over the season. Finally to all our sponsors and supporters throughout the season we thank you; easily the best supported club in the league this season and hopefully already looking forward to next season.

We would again like to thank everyone who signed up for the Club Supporters Development Syndicate to date. The results of the latest draw were composed of: 1st prize - €100 - Mike Mullowney; 2nd prize - €50 - Dermot O’Neill; 3rd prize - €25 - Margaret Murray. If anyone would like to join the syndicate to improve the club facilities contact any member of the committee or the club Facebook page directly
