Local Notes: Cruise ships, cemetery masses and community centre events
Mass times in Killea Church this week are as follows: Wednesday, June 5 at 7.30 pm; Friday, June 7 at 9.30 am; Sunday, June 9, at 9.30am. Mass in Carbally Church is celebrated every Sunday at 11am.
A reminder that all the cemetery masses this year are in mid-June and all start at 7.30pm. They will take place as follows: Killea Cemetery - . Wednesday, June 12; Crooke Cemetery - Thursday, June 13 and Faithlegg Cemetery - Friday, June 14. Please inform any of your relations outside County Waterford of the dates.
The Local Election candidates who will be contesting the elections on Friday, June 7, are composed of: Cllr Jody Power (Green Party); Cllr Mary Roche (Social Democrats); Cllr David Daniels (Independent); Cllr Pat Fitzgerald (Sinn Féin); Cllr Adam Wyse (Fianna Fáil); Cllr Stephanie Keating (Fianna Fail ); Declan Barry (Independent); Jim Darcy (Fine Gael); Caroline Griffin (Sinn Fein); Karl Cretzan (Sinn Féin); Darren Ryan (Independent) and John D Walsh (Independent). Also on Friday, the European Election for Ireland South will take place, with a total of five seats available and 23 candidates running for election.
The next cruise liner due in Dunmore East is the 'Celebrity Silhouette', which is due to arrive on June 15, with 2,886 passengers on board. All local residents and businesses please note.
The new opening hours for the Lifeboat Shop in Dunmore East are as follows: Thursday and Friday, from 12 noon to 4 pm, Saturday, from 12noon to 4.30pm and Sundays, from 2 pm to 4.30pm. The fundraising swim will take place next Sunday at 1.40pm.
Three swims coming up include: Challenging 1600m coastal swim, optional 800m swim and a junior 500m event 12 to 16-year-olds. The event was sold out long ago.
There are lots of activities going on in Carbally Community Centre each week and coming up on Sunday, June 16, is the Good Old Days festival with lots of events for all the family. The same day the Craft Fair will be back with stalls costing €10.
Thomas Barr was back in action on Saturday and Sunday week last, in Brussels. On Saturday he won his 400 metres flat race in a time of 46.53 seconds - not far off his best time of 46.44 - and on Sunday he was third in his 400 metres hurdles race, in 49.68. His next appearance will be in the European Championships in Rome, from June 7 to 12. He is entered in 400 metres hurdles, 4 x 400 Metres mixed relay and men's 4 x 400 metres relay. In Templemore, on Saturday week last, Siofra Moloney, Kilmacomb, competing with Ferrybank AC, won the Munster U13 Combined Events Championship.
