Late Kevin (The Goat) Phelan

The death took place on May 4, of Kevin (The Goat) Phelan, Barrack St, Waterford - a native of Harristown, Dunmore East. His remains reposed at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Waterford on Sunday with vigil prayers and rosary at 8pm. Kevin’ s Funeral Prayers took place in Thompson’s on Monday week last followed by burial in Killea Cemetery, Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. The family would like to thank the Staff of the Cedar Ward, University Hospital, Waterford for the wonderful care given to Kevin. Predeceased by his parents Paddy and Kitty and his sister Mary, he is survived by his wife Kathleen, children, Pat, Catherine, John, Terri and Méabh, daughter-in-law Mags, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and many friends.

Late Orla Helen McGrath

The death occurred on May 1, of Orla Helen McGrath (née: Forristal), Circular Road, Dunmore East, Waterford, and formerly of Morrison’s Avenue, Waterford and Western Australia. Her remains reposed at her residence on Wednesday last. Her removal to Holy Cross Church, Killea, was on Thursday last for her Requiem Mass with burial afterwards in Killea New Cemetery. Predeceased by her parents Paddy and Nellie Forristal and her sister Maura (Hassan), she is survived by her husband Sean and her children Ennae, Gavan and Conor, sisters Deirdre, Patricia and Sharon, brothers Gerry, Dermot and Padraig, grandchildren Molly, Elise, Jack and Caolinn, daughters-in-law Davida and  Vanessa, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Late Patrick (Pat) Walsh

The death took place on May 8, of Patrick (Pat) Walsh, Island View, Knockboy, an formerly of Falloon, Woodstown and late of Cherry’s Brewery. Pat’s funeral cortége passed his family home in Falloon, Woodstown, and his residence In Island View, en route to St Mary's Church Ballygunner for his Requiem Mass on Friday last followed by his cremation on Monday last. He was predeceased by his wife Esther, parents Tessie and Johnny, and is survived by his son Jason, daughter Nicola, daughter-in-law Sinead, son-in-law Evan, grandchildren Sean, Tommy and Lucy, great-granddaughter Emma, sisters Rita and Ann, brothers Sailor and Michael, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Sympathy is extended to all three families.

Mass Times

Mass Times in Killea Church this week are Wednesday May 15, at 7.30 pm, Friday, May 17, in Killea at 9.30 am Sunday, May 19 at 9.30 am. Mass in Carbally Church is every Sunday at 11am 

First Holy Communion

The boys and girls from Réalt na Mara National School will receive their First Holy Communion in Killea Church next Saturday at 10.30am. We hope they have a lovely day.

Cruise Liners

There will be more Cruise Lines visiting Dunmore this summer than last year. In total there are 28 scheduled calls due to take place this year with berthing to take place in Belview and Dunmore. First up will be the 'Celebrity Silhouette', this Thursday May 16, with 2,800 passengers and the 'Jewel of the Sea' on Tuesday, May 28, with 2,500 passengers.

Carbally Community Centre

Drama classes will be starting shortly in Carbally Community Centre. The adult classes will take place on Mondays, from 8pm to 10pm, and the contact number for more information is 085 1344403. Cookery Classes with limited spaces will begin in the centre on Tuesday, May 14, from 10am to 12noon. The classes will take place for five weeks and cookery ingredients will be included free.

Athletics

Very well done to Thomas Barr, Graiguearrida on his outstanding display at the World Mixed Relay Championships in Nassau, Bahamas with the Irish team.

In the heats on early Sunday morning week last the team were first home with a new Irish record of 13' 12.50" and automatically qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris later this year. It will be the third Olympics for Thomas. Then on early Monday morning week last the team won the bronze medals behind the USA and Norway in the final, in another Irish record of 3.11.83. Thomas is next on duty in the 400 metres hurdles at a meeting in Savona, Italy, this Wednesday.

Reminder

A reminder of the Waterford Primary School Sports at the RSC on Tuesday, May 14, at 10 am where boys and girls from Réalt na Mara School will compete. Events for boys and girls from 1st to 6th class, and each will have a sprint, middle distance and relay event.

Camogie

Waterford will play Cork in the Munster Senior Camogie Championship Final on Sunday May 19, at 1.45pm in FBD Semple Stadium Thurles. Several of the panel play with Gaill Tir Camogie Club. We wish them well.

Sailing

As all in the area are aware Fionn Lynch, from Knockroe and Max Sweetman, of Crossabeg, Co Wexford are both members of Waterford Harbour Sailing Club, Dunmore East, and have qualified for the European Sailing 420 Class Championships. The event will take place between July 1 and 9 in Portoroz, Slovenia, on the Adriatic Sea. The Irish Team will travel out on June 29, and the club are putting a voluntary crew of parents together to support the sailors and do logistics such as towing boats by road to the venue.
