Church News

The annual Summer collection for the support of the priests of the parish is now being taken up. You can use the envelope provided in your yearly pack or use any envelope that you may have and drop into the collection basket at weekend mass. On Wednesday, August 13, at 7pm there will be a meeting in St. Nicholas Church, Ballyduff. This meeting will be about all matters relating to the church renovations, masses etc. All are invited to come along and lend your voice to the conversation. On Friday, August 15 mass will take place at 11am for the beautiful Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. Fr. Francis and some volunteers are hoping to call to houses in the area to meet people and have a chat in the coming weeks. Please extend a warm welcome to them. For the foreseeable future there will be no Saturday evening mass in Ballyduff Church. The only weekend mass will take place on Sunday morning at 10am. Fundraising is now underway for the renovation of our beautiful church. Each household has now received an information letter about the project and how to donate. All details are also available on the parish website. The renovations are making steady progress. A few of the windows have had glass replaced and have been leaded. The next part of the renovation will include the replacement of gutters and downpipes to prevent dampness and moisture. The committee would like to sincerely thank all those who have made donations so far and ask those who haven’t, to consider donating so that these renovations can continue. A beautiful painting which was painted by Fr. Francis is on display in Centra, Kilmeaden and will be auctioned off and the proceeds given to the renovation fund.

Ballyduff Lower GAA

The latest GAA lotto draw was held on Monday, August 4 and there was no lucky jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 7, 15, 23 and 27. The three lucky dip winners of €50 each were Celia Kearney, Kathleen McCarthy, and Stan and Kim Bergin. The next draw will take place on August 3 and will have a fantastic jackpot of €12,500. Tickets cost just €2 each or 3 for €5 and can be purchased from all committee members, online or will be available to buy on Saturday, August 2, at Centra in Kilmeaden from the volunteer ticket sellers. This is a major part of the club’s fundraising so please support if possible and you could be that lucky jackpot winner. Congratulations to the U10 hurlers who played both Ballygunner and Butlerstown Tom Cheasty Park. The Ballyduff lads came out on top in both games. The team played very well together and showed some great skills. Congratulations to the Ballyduff Lower U16 lady footballers who beat Dungarvan to become Division 3 County Champions.

New Residents

We are delighted to see so many new people coming to live in our area and we bid them all a warm welcome. We encourage them to check out the Facebook pages and websites of our local groups and clubs to see what is going on in the area and see what you might like to become involved in. These local notes are also a great way of keeping up with what is going on in your area.

Litter Pickers

A big thank you and well done to our local group of litter pickers who do such a tremendous job keeping our area tidy and free of litter. It is up to every individual, however, to take their own rubbish home with them; there is absolutely no excuse for dumping litter. The Litter Picker Group are a bunch of volunteers who give their time and volunteer to pick up litter which is mostly thrown out of the windows of passing vehicles. It is very easy to have an empty bag in your car to take home your rubbish in.

Thought For The Week

Your talent determines what you can do, your motivation determines how much you are willing to do, your attitude determines how well you do it.
