Local Notes: Community centre news, hurling and deep water swim challenge

Mass Times

Mass times in Crooke and Faithlegg Churches are: Wednesday,  May 15 - Faithlegg (11.30am); Thursday, May - Crooke (10am); Saturday, May 18 - Faithlegg (6.30pm); Sunday Vigil, May 19 - Crooke (11.30am).

First Communion

The Boys and Girls from Passage and Faithlegg National Schools received their First Holy Communion recently in Crooke and Faithlegg Churches. Congratulations to them all.

Community Centre

There is lots of activity going on in the Passage East community centre at the moment. Bingo takes place on Tuesdays, from 8pm to 10pm and Gaultier Active Retirement get together there on the second Tuesday of the month, at around 1.30pm.

There are Irish dancing sessions every Tuesday at 6pm to 8pm and Arts and Crafts on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm. The Men's Shed meet there on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and the singing group gets together in the centre every Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm while the local Cubs meet on Mondays, Scouts on Wednesdays and Beavers/Ventures on Thursdays.

Declan Barry

Declan Barry is a candidate in the local elections, which will be held on June 7. Declan is a native of Crooke, Passage East, and is Vice Chair of the Passage East and Crooke Development Association. He is running as an independent candidate and best wishes to him.

Passage Hurling

The minors recently beat St Mary's by 0-19 to 1-13 in a league game in Kilmacthomas. Fixtures coming up include the All-County minor hurling league on Thursday, May 16 against Erins Own/Sacred Heart. The game will be in Passage at 7pm.

On May 17, the All County Division 1 competition will see Passage East go up against Ballygunner at 7pm, in Ballygunner. Please check locally on the day in case of change of date or time, and all info of changes etc. will be on Passage Hurling Club Facebook.

A huge thank you to John Whitty of JW Electrical who sponsored training gear for our senior team for the coming season. Please remember to pay any outstanding membership fees, through the iClubs app. This membership will give you full access to the new gym. Please note our Well Kids games are now on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 pm in the club grounds and not Fridays.

Deep Water Swim

The annual 'Beat the Ferryman Challenge Deep Water Swim', from Ballyhack to Passage for competent swimmers over 15 takes place on Sunday, June 16. This year there are two major changes: Entries will be taken on the day, either in Passage or Ballyhack and online entries close on Saturday, June 15, at 1pm; The Race briefing in Ballyhack will take place on the Quay before swimmers enter the water. 

The race will begin at 1.45pm and the next swim meeting will take place on Wednesday at the clubhouse, at 7.30pm.

Athletics

Today, Tuesday at the RSC, at 10am, the Waterford Primary Schools Track meeting promoted by Ferrybank AC will take place and Passage and Faithlegg National Schools will have boys and girls competing. There will be sprints, distance events and relays for each class from Frist to Sixth 

Camogie Final

Waterford will meet Cork in Semple Stadium, in Thurles on Sunday, next, May 19, in the Muster final at 1.45pm. On the panel is Kate Lynch from Parkswood and back in training recently, is Anne Corcoran, Crooke, and she will be joining the panel shortly.

Sailing

As all in the area are aware, Fionn Lynch from Knockroe ,Passage and Max Sweetman Crossabeg, Co Wexford, both members of Waterford Harbour Sailing Club, Dunmore East, have qualified for the European Sailing 420 Class Championships. The event will be held between July 1 and 9 in Portoroz, Slovenia, on the Adriatic Sea. The Irish Team will travel out on June 29 and the club is putting a voluntary crew of parents together to support the sailors and do logistics such as towing boats by road to the venue.
