Late Mrs Rita Doherty

The death occurred on Wednesday last, at her home, of Mrs Rita Doherty (née: Murphy), Coolbunnia, Faithlegg, who was 86. 

She was very well known in the area and beyond it too. Her remains were reposed at her residence on Saturday last. 

Rita's funeral cortege walked from Bridge Hill on its way for her Requiem Mass which took place on Sunday last, at St. Nicholas' Church, Faithlegg, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. 

She was predeceased by her husband Andrew, and survived by her children Andrew, Dorothy, Maria, Jacqui, Richard and Michael; her 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, her one great-great-grandchild; her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, and her brother-in-law Dennis. Sympathy is extended to the entire family from all the neighbours in Faithlegg and Cheekpoint.

Masses in Crooke

Masses in Crooke Church this week are as follows: Thursday at 10am and Sunday at 11.30am.

Please contact the Parish Office to request certificates or to make arrangements for Baptisms and weddings. Baptisms are celebrated as follows: Killea  - first Sunday of the month at 1pm; Faithlegg - second Saturday of the month at 5.30pm; Crooke - third Sunday of the month at 12.30pm.

Faithless Church

Works St Nicholas’ Church will be closed from this week for renovation. The Saturday Vigil Mass will continue to be celebrated in the church each week, but it will be closed throughout the week until the work is completed.

Graduation Day

Congratulations to Abel Tinchu Kannanthara, Cathal Connors, Elias Cunningham, Leo Geraghty Guerreiro, Maisie Roberts, Rosanna Heffernan, Sonny Purcell, William Barron and Willow Brooks who Graduated from Lios na nOg, Pre-School, Crooke, on Friday, June 28.

Parents and grand-parents were invited along to celebrate their special day. We wish them well in national school and hope to see them all for after-school care in September.

Ultimate Summer Party

On Saturday next, the Ultimate Summer Party, 'the Life and Songs of ABBA', are in Furlong's New Geneva Lounge. 

Tickets are available on Theatre Vamps page on eventbrite.ie and it promises to be a great nights entertainment.

By Hook or by Cooke

The annual By Hook or by Crooke Cycle Fundraising Tour is on Sunday next, leaving Passage East at 9.30am.

However, registration will take place in Passage East at 9am. The cyclists will take the Passage East Car Ferry at 9.30am and head on a tour of South County Wexford. 

Registration costing, €20, can be done online at connectit.ie. 

GAA News

Fixtures coming up for Passage Hurling Club over the coming weeks will include: Wednesday, July 3 - Minor Division 2: Passage V St Mary's in Passage at 7.30pm; Thursday, July 4 - Junior Eastern Junior C: Portlaw v Passage in Portlaw at 7.30pm; Saturday, July 6 - U13 Division 2: Passage v St Patrick's in Passage at 11.30am; Sunday, July 7 - Eastern Junior A: Passage v Clonea in Kill at 13.30pm; Monday, July 8 - U15 Division 3: Passage v Ballyduff Lower.

Always check locally on the day in case of change.

Well done to Dillon Mason and Rowan Jacob who both lined out for the CLG Port Lairge/Waterford GAA U15 team recently and Bula Bas to our juvenile player Louie Murray, and his sister Mimi, who sold their teddy bears recently at the Carbally Country Fair and Market in aid of Waterford Hospice and raised €330. 

Cúl Camp

Kellogg's Cúl Camp is on from July 15 to 19 and the Well Kids, for 4 to 6 year-olds, continues in the Passage field every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. 

In other GAA news the results of the June Draw were composed of: 1st - Jacqui Connors - €200; 2nd -  Philp Gunnip - €150; 3rd - Vincent Barry - €100 and 4th - David Flynn €50. Deise Draw tickets are available to purchase for this year's Déise Draw from Passage Hurling Club..

The draw has a prize pot of €126,000 cash up for grabs over the course of six separate draws, over the next number of months. Tickets are available for the six draws of the year for €100 and are available for purchase by contacting any member of committee. One ticket for first and last draw costs €20 euro each, for August, September and October €15 each.

For each ticket that is purchased through our club, we retain a massive €63 - a fantastic return for such an amazing prize. The first draw of 2024 will take place on July 12, meaning tickets need to be returned by July 1.

Ladies Football

On Sunday week last, in Walsh Park, Waterford senior lady footballers beat Donegal by 1-10 to 7 points. On the Waterford team for her second ever senior game was Emma Fitzgerald, from Crooke, daughter of Paul and Ann Marie, and she gave a brilliant display all round and landed six points from frees, being Waterford's top scorer. Waterford now meet Cork in the All Ireland quarter-final on Saturday next, July 6 at 1.15pm in SuperValu/Pairc Ui Chaoimh .
