Funding of €100,000 has been secured for the restoration of the 17th Century Tower House overlooking Ladies Cove in Dunmore East
Dunmore East Development Group is delighted to see that funding of €100,000 has been secured for the restoration of the 17th Century Tower House overlooking Ladies Cove, under the Community Monuments Fund. The application for this funding was submitted by the private owners of the Tower House, and DEDG is delighted to see that this has resulted in a positive outcome. The Tower House is a key heritage feature of the village. Although its origins are not fully certain, some sources suggest that it was built by Lord Power of the Curraghmore Estate circa 1640, while others suggest a different origin story. The funding will allow for stabilisation works to be completed on the Tower House, which will ensure its long-term survival into the future, and the site has already been secured in anticipation of this. DEDG looks forward to seeing these works progress over the coming weeks and months, and the group will continue to keep the restoration and maintenance of the village's built heritage high on its agenda.
In December 2025, Dunmore East Development Group was delighted to announce the group had been awarded funding for the complete refurbishment of the playground in the village park. This refurbishment will provide the playground with brand new equipment, a second entrance, new fencing and a completely new ground surface to bring it up to modern safety standards. DEDG recognises that the present state of the playground is totally unacceptable. Therefore Waterford City & County Council have committed to repairing the present surface and removing broken equipment as an interim measure. These interim works will take place in May, which will necessitate the closure of the playground for a few days. DEDG will inform the public of the exact date of this closure once it has been confirmed to us by Waterford City and County Council. As the actual full refurbishment will require the playground to be closed for a longer period of a number of weeks, it was agreed with Waterford City & County Council that this closure would take place in the Autumn, after the busy Summer season. Again, DEDG will inform the public when the exact date has been confirmed. DEDG looks forward to seeing this project come to fruition over the coming weeks and months.
