100th Birthday

Congratulations to Teresa O'Connor, who with her family, friends and the community of Portlaw, celebrated with her 100th birthday in the Community Hall. Teresa was her old self, remembering people, family and was able to tell people of their own family going back a generation or two.

Mass for Tereasa was celebrated by Fr Francis and Fr Liam and there was a party for Teresa following the Mass. In her young days she trained as a confectioner and was employed in Frank Madder's Portlaw Bakery, where she imparted her skills to many of her young apprentices. They were trained by a lady at the top of her profession.

When there was to be a wedding Teresa was the person to be consulted about the wedding cake. The cakes she made were works of art and were displayed in a beautiful glass cabinet in Jack Corcoran's shop, Bridge Street. Memories of peoples' weddings always included Teresa.  Happy 100th birthday to this wonderful, beautiful, lady. Our Teresa O'Connor. People came out in droves to wish this beautiful lady best wishes and it was so well deserved. God's blessings to you Teresa and many happy more years to come.

Graveyard Mass

Thank you everybody who turned out for our recent Graveyard Mass. It was a great turn out on a beautiful evening to celebrate Mass for our loved ones gone before us.

Thank you to all of you who brought cakes, buns, biscuits and made a fantastic display of home baking. Thank you to all those who helped with the set up, first up, last to go home. Thank you also to our two scheme workers for all their hard work keeping our graveyard neat and tidy all year long; especially this time of the year keeping the grass cut. It shows great community spirit. Last but not least, thank you to Richie Nugent for his beautiful singing and music, which added to the beautiful atmosphere for the night that was in it. Mixed emotions all around. May our loved ones gentle souls rest in Heavenly peace, amen.

Portlaw Camogie

A big shout out to three of our U14 girls, Chloe, Layla and Aoibheann who played the Shauna McGrath Memorial Tournament with Waterford. Waterford won the tournament by defeating Laois and Kerry. Well done girls on this great achievement, you are doing the club proud.

Well done to our U14s, who had a great win recently against Ferrybank in Portlaw. This secures them a place in the semi-final. Well done girls and mentors.

Portlaw Utd

Congratulations to Robbie Allen on picking up his top goalscorer award at the recent Waterford Junior League awards night. Robbie scored 16 league goals for our 2nd division team last season. Well deserved Robbie.

Euro 2024 Predictor Winner

Congrats to Luke Woods on taking the €300 winners prize.

Luke, along with three others had three correct predictions so it went to the tiebreak number of goals. In total there were 117 goals scored in the competition and Luke was closest with his prediction of 115. Well done Luke and thanks to all who supported the competition.

Portlaw GAA

Huge well done to our Intermediate Hurlers who beat Butlerstown on a score line of 2-26 to 1-14 in Dunhill. Great performance from all the lads including our top scorers DJ (1-9 including 1-3 from play), Cormac Rooney (1-5) and John Power (0-5 from play).

We had two winners in the first Déise Draw of 2024. Congratulations to DJ Foran and John Dooley, both of whom are members of our club development syndicate.

Our busy U7s took part in a hurling blitz recently and played games against Butlerstown and Ferrybank 1 and 2 on what turned out to be a lovely summer's evening. Thanks to Butlerstown GAA for hosting and to all the supports/parents for their encouragement.
