A community group in County Waterford has been awarded €80,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development to develop an allotment amenity in their town.

The Tramore Allotments group expressed delight at receiving the funding which was allocated under the Community Recognition Fund. Over the past 12 years, the group has received incredible support locally and those involved are very appreciative of everyone involved.

The funds will be used for essential drainage, fencing, and preparation work. The group expressed appreciation for the support they received from local public representatives including Cllr Eamon Quinlan, who they said provided them with unwavering support.

They also expressed gratitude to Cllr Blaise Hannigan and Deputy Marc O Cathasaigh TD, for their support of the project.

In April 2023, Waterford City and County Council granted planning permission for the development of Tramore Community Allotments in the Riverstown area and with this new funding the group behind the project will plan to begin work on the project and see their vision come to life.

As one local commented: "Members can now look forward to picking up their spades and contributing to this vibrant community project."
