GARDAÍ have confirmed that a man was stabbed during the course of an incident, which took place at the College Street campus of Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) yesterday afternoon.

At 3.30pm a man acting suspiciously outside attracted the attention of Gardaí, who where dealing with a separate issue. Moments later, the suspect assaulted another man known to him on campus. The injured party was stabbed, but the injury was not life-threatening. The suspect was arrested and later brought to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.

The matter is under investigation and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. A file will be prepared for the DPP.
