Yes, a big win for WIT Vikings and a tremendous personal achievement by Tramore’s Craig O’Neill who came through with a game high 41 points to ensure the win.
WIT Vikings started the game on fire and through O’Neill and Robinson were 16 points to seven in front within five minutes. As has happened on a few occasions this season when going well the team switches off and before the period ended, they found themselves 21 to 16 behind.
11 points in a row from O’Neill restored some order to the Vikings play but LIT were responding well and as half time approached the teams were going basket for basket going in at the half WIT Vikings four behind 44 to 40.
If the third period left them down in Portlaoise the previous night they made up for it here outscoring LIT 27 to 18 putting themselves back into the lead 67 to 62 going into the final period.
Noe, Robinson and Murphy did most of the damage accounting for 16 of their team’s total between them. At the other end an up-tempo defence was forcing the visitors into making mistakes allowing the home team a number of easy scores.
With five in front and ten minutes left to play could WIT Vikings bring home the win? With similar opportunities in the past couple of games they have come out on the wrong side a few times but not today. They continued where they left off at the end of the third good pressure defence coupled with a confidence on the offensive end led by O’Neill and Noe saw them pull away from LIT to ensure a thirteen-point win in the end 90 to 77.
