A TWENTY-one-year-old woman has been released from University Hospital Waterford but it is understood will need further treatment in Cork for injuries she received at a house in the city early this morning.

Gardaí were called to a house at Gracedieu Road at 5.20am this morning after the woman was understood to be assaulted by a weapon believed to be a knife.

A male was arrested  close to the scene on a charge of assault causing harm. He is currently detained at Waterford Garda Station.

The house remains cordoned off as a forensic examination continues. An area close to the house is also being searched by Gardaí this afternoon.
