Shane Monagle Tramore AC was named the Combined Credit Union’s of St Dominic and Waterford Supreme Young Athlete of the Year at a function in the Dome at WIT last Friday evening. Then on Sunday he won the 60m hurdles at All-Ireland Junior & U23 Indoor Championships in Athlone.

During 2017 among his best performances were setting a new record in winning the All Ireland u 18 110 M Hurdles Championship with 14.18 seconds and winning the Celtic International u 18 110 m Hurdles again with a new record of 14.21,In addition he won the 60 metres All Ireland U-18 Indoor Championships, the Tón Le Ghaoite 110 Metres Hurdles u 18 and was second in the All Ireland Indoor Youth’s Combined Events. Present were Mayor of the Metropolitan area Sean Reinhardt who complimented all the monthly winners and paid tribute to the Combined Credit Unions for their sponsorship over the years of the event.

Special Guest Olympian Lizzie Lee gave many words of advice to the twelve young athletes and emphasised to them enjoy their sport, train regularly and set targets and listen to their coaches and on behalf of the Credit Unions Linda O’Kane said they were very happy and proud to be associated with the Awards which would continue this year and thanked the adjudicating panel. Many parents of the 12 nominees and also their coaches were also present at a very enjoyable occasion and all enjoyed refreshments laid on by the Credit Unions.
