Over a thousand children competed in the annual Waterford City and surrounding areas Primary Schools Cross Country races organised by Ferrybank AC at the RSC on Tuesday last and hundreds of parents came along to cheer them on also. It was a most enjoyable event and individual winners came from the following schools; Ballygunner,St Declan’s , Passage, Killea, Portlaw, Ferrybank and Kilmacthomas The Best Girls School award went to Ballygunner, St John of God were 2nd and St Ursula’s 3rd, Best Boys School was St Declans, Ferrybank were 2nd and Ballygunner 3rd. Best Small School was Butlerstown. Gaelscoil Phortlairge were 2nd and Portlaw 3rd. The following were the individual results;1 st Class Girls Race 1 1. County Cross Country Championships
The County Championship Cross Country season begins on Sunday next at 11 am sharp in St Augustine’s College Grounds Abbeyside. The senior and junior championships will be incorporated into the West Waterford Open Race which will start after the juvenile Championships. The programme for the juvenile championships is as follows; Boys and Girls u8,u10,u12,u14,u16, u 18. For spectators travelling to the venue the advice is come prepared for the underfoot conditions and club mentors have your athletes well warmed up for their events, no standing around in cold conditions, first race will be girls u 8 all other races follow in quick succession

The Croppy Boy Road Race
The above race will take place on next Saturday 30th of September at 2.00pm in Passage East. There will be a 10km race and 5km fun run, entry fee starts at €10 with chip timing. Families welcome.Registration is available through www.totaltiming.ie. presently. Entries on the day from 12 noon at Race Headquarters in Passage East Community Centre.The winner will receive “The Ronan Walsh Memorial Cup”, a number of athletes from Raheny AC will be competing, the late Ronan Walsh competed for years with Raheny. A beautiful Commemoration Mug will go to all participants. The races will start up near The Passage Hurling Clubhouse in Crooke. Funds raised will go to the Passage East & Crooke Development Association and the Faithlegg and Crooke 31st Scouts. All enquiries to [email protected] After the presentation of prizes in the Community Centre Seattle Band will play outside the Centre in Passage.
Looking ahead to Sunday October 8th the Annual Solas Centre Run for Life over 10 miles and Walk over 5 miles starts at 12.30 pm from Gladstone St Waterford entries on totaltiming.ie
