Kilcohan Park – Saturday July 29th

Dominating this card were the semi-finals of the Michael Conway Memorial Guineas. Running from trap six in the first semi-final College Jade 3/1 routed the opposition in a best of weekend 28.28. A slick exit saw ‘College’ make every stride a winning one proving four and a half lengths to good for Hey Bound.
Race 1, A2 575: Ballarue Joey 4/1 made a pleasing track debut in a decent 31.45. Leading at the first bend ‘Ballarue’ made the best of his way home ahead of Invisible Force. Archaton Fly eventually stayed on into second place albeit three lengths in arrears of ‘Ballarue’.
Race 2, A5 525: In the first of two semi-finals of the Speedrite A5 event Random Surprise 2/1 ran riot over the opposition sluicing up in a career best 28.73. Firing herself into an early lead ‘Random’ never saw another rival en route to a twelve and a half lengths success over Zip Up Front
Race 3, A5 525: Despite a moderate break in the second qualifier the Catriona Maguire owned and Michael Brennan trained Daring Amber 4/5 bounded into a first bend lead over Miss Lola. This order of running never altered thereafter with ‘Daring’ staying on stoutly for a length and a half defeat of Miss Lola in a best ever 29.05.
Race 4, A3 525: The Delahunty Syndicate owned Bigwood Pitstop 3/1 returned to winning ways producing a gallant front running display in 28.85. Annacurra Jet proved a constant threat throughout but sticking to the task ‘Bigwood’ deservedly prevailed by a length.
Race 5, A2 525: The following two races were semi-finals of the Speedrite A2 competition. The Jonathan Rolle owned Nans Special utilised his early foot to lead all the way in a decent 28.68. Displaying plenty of early pace ‘Nans’ 5/2 led early on from Champagne Doll and Archaton Puma. Maintaining a steady gallop at the head of affairs ‘Nans’ cruised to a five lengths defeat of a running on Running Wild.
Race 6, A2 525: In the second qualifier Hillburn Biddy 6/4 made every stride a winning one in 28.86. Hitting the first bend in front of Shunters Fly ‘Hillburn’ was in no mood to surrender her hard earned lead. Sticking to the task in hand ‘Hillburn’ went on to account for a running on Nellie Holy God by three and a half lengths.
Race 7, A1 525: First semi-final in the Guineas – see introduction.
Race 8, A1 525: The second semi-final saw Tagalong Hawkeye 7/2 make every post a winning one in 28.87.Gliding into an early lead over the chasing pack ‘Tagalong’ set sail for home ahead of Dicky Thepostman. Despite ‘Dicky’ giving of his best in second place ‘Tagalong’ saw the standard trip out to the limit proving a length and a half to good for ‘Dicky’.
Race 9, AO/A1 525: Airmount Speed and Godmother served up a real thriller in the lucky last. Locking horns throughout little or nothing separated the pair and it was only in the dying strides that ‘Airmount’ 2/1 put his neck in front of a gallant Godmother with a fast finishing Jolly Boozer just behind in third. Time 28.74.
