The success of the Waterford Sports Group has helped numerous clubs and sporting organisations in Waterford City and County and their latest event will be the third annual Waterford Sports Group Golf classic which will be held at Waterford Golf Club on Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22.
The concept of the event is a simple one as the clubs in the group will come together to share the costs and maximize revenue for their club whilst also enjoying two great days of competitive golf but the fun element will also be catered for.
Speaking on the launch of the event at Waterford Golf Club on Tuesday last, Nick Donnelly, who is current captain of Waterford Golf Club said, “We really look forward to welcoming the Waterford Sports Group back to Waterford Golf Club and we’ll be hoping that the weather will be on our side on this occasion.
“It’s always a great day and we’re confident like last year of filling the two days with the timesheet for the event now live. We are also happy to make sure that those that competed in the event last year are catered for once again.”
St Joseph’s are one of the clubs involved and their member James Manning said, “Last year was great for our club with 15 teams entered and plenty of sponsorship opportunities. We raised in excess of €1,000 with absolutely no risk.
“I played myself both days and really enjoyed the buzz in the clubhouse after the golf with representatives of the different clubs mingling together. What’s great about this event is that you don’t have to a golfer to enjoy a fun day out on one of the top courses in Waterford.”

FUN FOR ALL
Echoing those sentiments was Jim Long of the Waterford Darts League who said, “It’s great fun, it’s great golf and it raises money for all. The food is also fantastic and when you throw in a few pints on top sure what more could you ask for.”
Speaking on behalf of Ballyduff Soccer Club Paddy Kirk said, “The feature that was most attractive to our members was the two different competitions running in parallel. One for GUI members with official handicaps, and the different competition for society and non-GUI.
“This allowed everyone to support our club as well and as a result of the event some players decided to join Waterford Golf Club, such was their impression of the golf course and its facilities.”
The cost for teams of four is €120 with the breakdown as follows: €30 towards Green Fees, €30 towards Food Voucher for team members, €20 towards purchasing golf prizes, €40 PROFIT to introducing club
Tee/Green sponsorship is available at €50 and €100 with 80% kept by introducing club with signage to be brought to the Golf Club by Wednesday, July 19th. For more details you can contact Waterford Golf Club or email: [email protected]
