THE Gardai have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 31-year-old woman was found in an apartment on Thomas Street yesterday afternoon.

Samantha Walsh, originally from Lisduggan in the city, was found by paramedics at a rented property in the city yesterday at around 3pm. A forensic examination of the scene began yesterday and her body was removed to University Hospital Waterford this morning.

Superintendent Chris Delaney said: “As a result of a postmortem examination carried out at University Hospital Waterford by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis we have commenced a murder investigation into the death of Samantha Walsh. The Gardai are appealing to anybody who was in the Thomas Street area or its environs on Thursday (April 27) night or Friday (April 28) morning who may have any information or may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300. All information received will be treated with strict confidence.”
