SINN Fein Councillor John Hearne has stated that in addition to extra resources, the Gardai need to have the will to tackle repetitive acts of violence in Waterford.

Cllr. Hearne was speaking after a vicious assault in the Priory Lane estate in Ballybeg at approximately 2.50pm yesterday which left a 20-year-old man at risk of losing some of his fingers and thumb. A large knife or saw was reportedly used in the assault.

“Sadly this breaks out every now and again. It’s sporadic but it is absolutely savage violence used on people. We haven’t had a solution to it and the community has no faith in the Gardai to tackle this”, he said.
