INDEPENDENT candidate John Halligan has seen over a 50% increase of first preference votes since the last General Election in 2011.

Mr Halligan received an impressive 8,306 first preference votes, as revealed at the count centre in WIT minutes ago. Despite being just over 2,000 votes below the quota for election Mr Halligan is “not saying anything yet”.

John Halligan has many years in politics, first as a City Councillor in Waterford, then as the City’s Mayor and most recently as an Independent TD for Waterford since 2011.

John joined the Dáil’s Technical Group in March 2011. On a number of occasions he tackled the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and various Government ministers on the many issues effecting Waterford.

John has also been at the forefront of many national campaigns.
