IN this week’s edition of The Waterford News & Star, we reveal the concept images for the new Waterford City Centre Shopping Complex that senior officials say could be delivered within the next 2-3 years. The development, which dominates thousands of square feet between Michael Street and St. Stephen’s Street has been described by Lar Power, Director of Economic Development at Waterford City and County Council as a ‘game changer for Waterford City that will re-establish it as the retail capital of the south-east.”
According to these concept images, the complex will be located in the area where New Street Car Park and New Street Gardens are currently situated, as well as the area formerly inhabited by the De La Salle Social Centre.
The plans show two entrances to the complex at Michael Street and another pedestrian bridge entrance, which will link the complex to a critical mass car-park that will be located at the top of New Street. The much loved pop-up gardens that have brought such life to New Street this year will not disappear forever as the plans show an extensive garden area in the centre of the complex as well as on the roof of the two-storey development.
