Justin survives.....but for how long?

FOR obvious reasons we had much more than a passing interest in the outcome of last Thursday night’s Limerick County Board vote on the managerial future of Justin McCarthy.

The Corkman won the crucial vote alright to ensure that he remains at the helm, but the most obvious question to be asked now is - -for how long more can he hold onto a position that to me seems to becoming more untenable by the day.

Having dramatically axed as many as a dozen players from his panel for the coming year, the situation deteriorated alarmingly a short while later when another eight of the 2009 panel also decided to walk away leaving Justin with nothing more than a skeleton of the panel he had set out with at the start of this year.

Will any, or all, of these players now have a change of heart and mind given last Thursday night’s vote. I wouldn’t be waging the house mortgage on it, and with most of the County Board executive also in the “anti McCarthy’’ camp one wonders how Justin can survive for much longer.

If last Thursday’s County Board meeting was intended to bring finality to the matter one way or the other it is my belief that it has done nothing of the sort.

Expect the shenanigans to rumble on more loudly than ever on Shannonside once the New Year of 2010 dawns over the next few weeks.
