RESEARCHERS from the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) at Water-ford Institute of Technology have enjoyed a double success in receiving awards at two prestigious international conferences.
At the eChallenges e-2009 conference and exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey, Prof John Strassner, Dr Sven van der Meer, Dr Brendan Jennings and Miguel Ponce de Leon of TSSG won the best paper award. Judged by a panel of independent experts, over 150 academic papers were assessed over three days at the European Commission-supported conference.
Over 650 delegates attended the conference, which has an international reputation for high quality papers.
Separately, Dr Jennings - a senior research fellow at TSSG - and his colleague Paul Malone, a researcher with the group, won the ‘best paper’ award at the MEDES (Management of Emergent Digital Ecosystems) conference in Lyon, France where theirs was one of 75 papers presented by academics from Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
Commenting on the awards, Dr Jennings said, “It is very gratifying to have our work recognised by colleagues in the international research community, especially as these awards underline the high quality of the research outputs from TSSG where our work concentrates on telecommunications network management and mobile services, as well as how best to build the Future Internet.
“This work is also endorsed by our current engagement in 11 EU-funded research projects concerning the Future Internet and a range of other programmes we are involved in that have made this one of the largest ICT research and innovation centres in Ireland.”
