THE countdown is under-way for the Spraoi festival, which will transform the streets of the city into non-stop entertainment venues from July 31 to August 2.
Following the outstanding success of ‘Spraoi in the Park’ Spraoi is bringing almost 200 free performances to the city with acts from Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Netherlands and Australia including an array of Irish premieres.
Among the highlights is French company Transe Express, which will perform
in Miller’s Marsh car park on Friday and Saturday nights. The show’s performers are dramatically suspended from a huge construction crane and the company was a major hit when it visited the festival several years ago.
Waterford’s medieval city walls at Jenkin’s Lane will be the venue for Catalan company Circo Delicia.
They will perform a dramatic choreographed show on the walls themselves.
A short distance away the AOL stage in John Robert’s Square will be a hub of activity throughout the three-day festival offering audiences an array of international music.
Performance areas and stages will operate throughout the city centre, and the much-loved Spraoi Fireworks will bring the 2009 festival to a close on Sunday night.
All events at the festival are free and the event is expected to attract thousands of residents and visitors to the city’s streets.
The programme will run each afternoon and evening, with comedy expected to be a particular attraction in these recessionary times.
Full details of the Spraoi Festival programme are now available on www.spraoi.com. The festival’s printed programme will be circulated shortly.
