Thanks for support

WE are writing to you to thank the Waterford News & Star and the wider community for their support over the last number of months when Family Resource Centres (FRCs) were threatened by the McCarthy Report.

The strength of feeling among the community played no small part in our efforts to persuade the Government to spare us from closure or significant cuts.

We would also like to publicly extend our thanks to the many public representatives – from across the political divide – who came to our assistance. The efforts of local politicians had a hugely positive impact on Government and opposition leaders alike, and the support on the ground for Family Resource Centres was constantly mentioned when our national representatives met senior politicians.

Despite our great relief with the budget announcement, we are aware that the overall economic climate and social welfare cuts present many challenges for us. We have committed to taking on extra duties in the future, and we look forward to working with Government in this regard.

From: Amy Kearney,
Chairperson,
St. Brigid’s Family & Community Centre,
37 Lower Yellow Road,
Waterford.
