Australia is open for business…
By Deirdre Dalton

WHEN an Australian emigration expert organised an information seminar in Waterford last week, she knew it would be popular but was more than surprised when over 250 people turned up.

People of all ages, not just your stereotypical 20 something backpacker, crammed into the Tower Hotel to find out about the process involved in finding your way down under.

“The calibre of people who attended in Waterford was very impressive. There were so many highly qualified people who definitely have options when it comes to working and living in Australia,” said Liz O’Hagan, founder of Australian Visa Specialists.

“We were surprised not just by the numbers who attended but by the age profile. There were a lot of middle aged people who are looking at their options,” she said.

During a general information presentation Liz and her staff advised people that Australia, the only country in the western world that didn’t go into recession, is open.

“There are opportunities out there for people but they may need to look outside Sydney, Brisbane and Perth to find them. The regional cities in Australia aren’t in the middle of the bush and don’t only offer the option of fruit picking,” she said.

Some people were eligible to go straight away while others, like those wishing to avail of the skilled migration visa, may have to wait until 2013 for their application to be assessed. While a number were almost heading to the airport straight after the seminar, such was their excitement, others were left disappointed due to their age or their circumstances not allowing them to go as soon as they would like.

“The best advice to give people is to fill out a free online assessment and we can tell them what their options are and where to go from there,” said Liz.

Due to the large volume of people who attended the seminar on Tuesday last not everyone got to talk to a consultant. To find out more check out the website www.australianvisaspecialists.com.
