It was a bitterly cold Monday night last at the RSC as Waterford FC recorded their second home win in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division with an excellent 2-0 win over St. Patrick’s Athletic in front of 1,859 who were warmed up by an amazing goal from Bastien Héry.
Héry beat keeper Barry Murphy with a brilliant half volley that secured all three points for the Blues and although Gavan Holohan joked that he’ll be unbearable after scoring the goal, his team-mate was full of praise for the magnificent strike.
Speaking after the game, Holohan said, “It’s a great win for us especially at home. I thought that we were the better team over the course of the 90 minutes and it’s great to get another three points in front of our own fans.
“We were bang at it right from the start of the game and I thought that we made it very difficult for them. I felt that we played some good football during the game and scored two excellent goals so overall you would have to be happy with it.
“I think that we got a lot of confidence from scoring a goal inside ten minutes. It’s always good to get off to a good start and I thought that the goal gave us the momentum. I thought that we controlled the game apart from maybe the last ten minutes but we defended well saying that.”

“I thought other than that we were excellent as a unit. It was a brilliant strike from Bastien but unfortunately for us we won’t hear the end of it now. He won’t let us forget that one but I’m delighted for him because he is an excellent player and it was a great strike.
“We are delighted to get back to winning ways here tonight. I thought that there were a lot of positives to take from the game down in Cork because for 55 minutes until they got the goal, we were right in the game but it was important that we got back to winning ways tonight with the three points.
“I think that it’s important that we continue in the right frame of mind. It’s a good performance tonight and a good result but we have to build on this result now. We have another couple of tough games coming up so hopefully we can keep working hard. The fans were great again tonight and it’s brilliant to win at home.”
