A BRAVE city shopkeeper became involved in a struggle when a man tried to take cigarettes without paying.

At 2.15pm on Tuesday a male entered Siopa Rís, St Mary’s Terrace and asked for cigarettes. Owner of the shop Sean Hayes was about to hand them over when he realised the man was not going to pay. A struggle ensued when the culprit tried to grab the cigarettes, but Mr Hayes held onto the property. The culprit left empty handed. Gardaí said there were no serious injuries as a result.
