TWO women were robbed as they walked through the city centre on their way home last night.

At around 9.50pm the two women, aged 65 and 67, were walking in the Broad Street area when two males wearing hoodies approached them and tried to snatch their handbags.

One woman was knocked to the ground and her handbag was taken. She received an injury to her finger, but did not require medical attention.

The other woman managed to hold onto her handbag, despite the strap being broken. The women immediately went to Waterford Garda Station to report what happened. Gardaí reviewed CCTV in the area.

One man was arrested this morning and was brought to Waterford Garda Station for questioning.
