A WATERFORD mother who went into a Tesco Store to do her weekly shopping walked out a cool €193,300 richer – after discovering she was in possession of a winning Lotto ticket!

The woman was unaware she and her family had been holding onto the winning Lotto Match 5 + Bonus for several weeks, and only realised their great fortune when she decided to get a bundle of old lottery tickets scanned.

The lucky family syndicate made up of the woman, her husband and adult children celebrated in style when they visited the famous National Lottery Winners room today to claim their mega prize.

The Quick Pick ticket was purchased on Saturday 21st October at the Tesco store in Kilbarry in Co. Waterford.
Unaware of the win for a number of weeks after the draw, the family matriarch made the discovery on her weekly shopping trip to the Tesco store.

She said: “I’m a divil for not checking my old lottery tickets. I had a bundle of them and decided to get them checked when I was doing my Tesco shop. The girl behind the counter pulled me aside and she whispered that I was after winning big. It was another job entirely convincing my family that we had won. They were sure I was having a senior citizen moment so they all had to check the ticket for themselves just to be certain!”

The lucky syndicate wish to keep their win private, but that hasn’t stopped the happy group from sharing the news with their family and friends, inadvertently in some cases:

“The day after we checked the ticket we put a small few bob on a horse and myself and my husband were in the kitchen with our next-door neighbour watching the race. Low and behold the horse came in first and my husband with his big mouth blurted out that we had yet another reason to celebrate! Rather innocently, our neighbour joked that we must have won the lotto and we fell about the place laughing – there was no point in denying it at that stage!”

Discussing their spending plans for their Lotto windfall, the winning mother said, “It’s a lovely amount to win and it’s even better to share it among the family. It will give myself and my husband a lot of comfort over the next few years and we’ll look to make some home improvements. Our children are only starting out in life and I’m sure that the money will be well used for house deposits and cars which will give them an amazing start in life.”
