Former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave will be laid to rest at noon today.
The family of the 97-year-old have opted for a limited amount of State ceremony, even though Mr Cosgrave is entitled to a full state funeral.
The service will take place in Rathfarnham in Dublin.
Liam Cosgrave was a key architect of the Sunningdale agreement, which paved the way for the Anglo Irish agreement 11 years later.
In his weekly message, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar gave his personal recollections of Mr Cosgrave.
“He’s someone I met on a number of occasions – in Croke Park, at 1916 events and occasionally at Fine Gael events.
“He was very much somebody who had a quiet dignity about him, and commanded, and continues to command, an enormous respect within the party.”
