The Bolands, Waterford Citroen festival of racing drew to a successful conclusion with five finals down for decision. The nine race card opened with three second round heats of the Crokers Champ @ Stud Open unraced event. The fastest return of the session arrived in the A1 decider with the Mary Flynn owned and Nick Turner trained Coco Blaze 2/1 running riot over a decent line up in an excellent 28.46. The early pace of Coco Blaze carried him into a first bend lead over Longslip Billy. Piling on the pressure up front ‘Coco’ was never in any danger of losing out breezing in two lengths clear of a running in Javielenko.
Race 1, NO 525: Haliska Frankie 3/1 made no mistake from an outside draw leading everywhere in a much improved 28.61. Leading early on from Swithins Beans ‘Haliska’ was not extended running out a two and a half lengths winner over a staying on Droopys Alex.
Race 2, NO 525: Kalamoun 2/1 opened his account at the second time of asking in a sprightly 28.57. Powering his way into a first bend lead Kalamoun was soon on course for an easy success. A slow starting Drive On Mike threatened briefly between the final two bends but Kalamoun was not for catching hitting the winning line three and a half lengths clear of ‘Drive’.
Race 3, NO 525: High St Bono 1/1 made up for an unlucky first round defeat by taking this qualifier in 28.98. After a moderate start ‘High’ did really well to stay on his feet after a hefty first bend bump. Grabbing a second bend lead ‘High’ went on to account for the always prominent Our Crystal Lad by four and a half lengths.
Race 4, A5 525: The A5 final went to Telex Honey 6/4 who ran out a worthy winner in a career best 28.93. Motoring into a first bend lead ‘Telex’ quickly set sail for home. El Mex fared best of the rest but was three and a half lengths in arrears of ‘Telex’ at the winning line.
Race 5, A3 525: With the well fancied pair of Sparta Comet and Soul coming in contact after leaving traps Lemon Ollie 5/2 made no mistake in the A3 final running out an emphatic winner in a best ever 28.62. Firing himself into a first bend lead ‘Lemon’ never saw another rival en route to a clear cut seven lengths defeat of Pronto Tank.
Race 6, D2/D3 730: A six bend marathon produced a very easy winner in the shape of the Gerry Kiely owned Airmount Panther this 4/5 hot pot sluicing up in a brisk 40.68. Easing his way into an early lead over Archaton Fly ‘Airmount’ was never out of his comfort zone en route to a six lengths defeat of ‘Archaton’.
Race 7, A4 550: The Jim Gray owned and Michael Meade trained Ride The Tiger 6/4 continued his winning run with another eye catching front running display to triumph in the 550 yard final in 30.10. Well suited to this distance ‘Ride’ quickly established a handy lead over the chasing pack. After a moderate start Fleeting Nicko kept on into second place but there was no denying ‘Ride’ who fully deserved his two and a half lengths victory.
Race 8, A2 525: Coco Princess edged out on the run up in the A2 decider and ended up on the deck at the opening turn alongside Airmount Cher and Jumeirah Lolls. Fatboyz Darcie 4/1 did well to hold her position at the head of affairs ahead of a close running Hungerofthepine. The latter put it up to ‘Fatboyz’ but ‘Fatboyz’ was in no mood to relinquish a heard earned lead staying on stoutly for a four lengths defeat of Hungerofthepine. Time 28.98.
Race 9, A1 525: See introduction.
