WATERFORD Gardaí conducted Operation Storm over the past three days in the city. The initiative, under the banner of Operation Thor, was aimed at crime prevention, targeted arrests, search operations, and community engagement.

Approximately 120 members took part in the Operation, including Waterford District and Divisional uniform and detective staff, assisted by RSU and trainee Gardaí from the Garda College.

The operation is still ongoing, but so far they have carried out 24 arrests and detentions for burglary, theft, criminal damage, assault and violent disorder. Sixty checkpoints have been carried out with more planned. Six searches of premises were conducted under warrant, while there were six further search operations at locations of reported drug activity.

There has been large scale visibility foot patrols in 18 neighbourhoods in the city, including community beats and leaflet drops.

They also had crime prevention/education and awareness stands in local shopping centres and at University Hospital Waterford.
