A 28 year old man has been charged with the murder of Samantha Walsh.
This morning Danny Whelan of no fixed abode was brought before Waterford District Court. Detective Garda Patrick Kelly said he arrested Whelan on May 1. Whelan was cautioned and made no reply when charged. It is the State’s application for a remand in custody. Solicitor Colin Morrissey made an application for legal aid on behalf of his client who is on social welfare. He said Whelan had been released from University Hospital Waterford. He asked that he be afforded all necessary care. Mr Morrissey put it to the Detective that his client replied not guilty when charged. However, he said that was incorrect. Judge Kevin Staunton directed that Whelan receive all necessary medical and psychological treatment. Judge Staunton remanded him in custody until May 8.
