Kilcohan Park – Saturday March 4th
A ten race card featured the semi-finals of the Larry O’Rourke A3 stake. The opening race of the night however saw the fastest winner on view with the Michael Furlong owned Ballyhi Bucko 6/4 to 4/6 return to winning ways in a brisk 28.74. Grabbing an outright back stretch lead from Daring Tavern ‘Ballyhi’ saw the trip out well to deny ‘Daring’ by four lengths.
Race 2, A7 525: Mooncoin Diva and Badgers Paddy held the call early but they were joined in the lead between the final two bends by the Declan Power owned Solford. Despite taking a bump off the home turn Solford 2/1 went on to account for Hilldun Rose by a length in 30.19.
Race 3, A6 525: The early paced Matties Rosie led to the back stretch where she gave way to All About News 4/6. Owned by Willie Rigney and trained by Peter Cronin ‘All’ having just his second race went on to defeat a running on Monroe Beag by three and a half lengths in a decent 29.11.
Race 4, A5 525: Zip Up Front set the gallop for three quarters of the trip but steered a wide course off the home turn. The Robert Bennett owned and Nick Turner trained Dipton Spark 2/1 took advantage of the situation to come through on the inside eventually hitting the line two and a half lengths clear of ‘Zip’. Time 29.33.
Race 5, A8/A10 525: The less said about this three runner contest the better. Despite a first bend bump the Margaret Walsh owned and Peter Cronin trained El Sala 1/2 came through at the third bend to lead from Carrigoe Carolyn before proving five lengths to good for Market Hero in 29.78.
Race 6, A3 525: Shunters Fly made the running for a long way but had no answer to the fourth bend challenge by the 4/6 favourite Bellside Don. Owned by John Donnelly and trained by Pat Buckley ‘Bellside’ went on to defeat ‘Shunters’ by one and a half lengths in a career best 29.05.
Race 7, A8/A10 525: Trainer Peter Cronin sent out his third winner on the night as Jacks Electric 1/2 made a winning debut posting a facile success for owners Larry and Jack O Shea. Gliding by the front running Mandeville Icon near the third bend ‘Jack’ went clean away up the home stretch to deny ‘Mandeville’ by six and a half lengths in 29.13.
Race 8, A3 525: In the first semi-final of the A3 stake a fast starting Tagalong Roisin gave way on the back stretch to Toker Rio. Driving up the inside of Toker’ however Droopys Florenzi 5/4 led off the home turn. Owned by Michael Dunphy and trained by Pat Buckley ‘Droopys’ went on to get the better of ‘Toker’ by a length in 28.96.
Race 9, A3 525: With Badminton Blonde missing the break in the second qualifier Longslip Billy 2/1 and Coco Magic locked horns up front. Holding the inside berth throughout the Laurence Bolton Lee owned ‘Longslip’ stuck to his guns well to get the better of ‘Coco’ by two lengths in a best ever 28.88.
Race 10, A2 525: The Martin Curran owned Loskeran Fizzy made a slick start from trap six to lead everywhere in 28.81. When Hatfield Bally stayed wide off the second bend hampering Rosegarland Pink ‘Loskeran’ 3/1 increased her lead eventually coming home three and a half lengths clear of Running Wild.
