Kilcohan Park – Saturday February 4th

A ten race card featured semi-finals of the Robinsons Bar, Tramore A6/A7 competition and local owner Philip Gaffney took the opportunity to plunder both qualifiers with litter comrades Gaffers Beauty 4/5 and Horgans Whisper 1/2. In the first qualifier Swift Spice and Misterin Smile locked horns up front but recovering from a first bend bump Gaffers Beauty drove up the inside of this pair between the final two bends. Once in front ‘Gaffers’ went on to account for ‘Misterin’ by two and a half lengths in 29.48.
Despite a moderate break in the second semi-final Horgans Whisper powered into a first bend lead over the chasing pack. Piling on the pressure up front ‘Horgans’ went clean away up the home stretch to record a facile eight lengths success over Whitefort Alfie in 29.40.
Race 1, A1 525: Rastafari Vic made the running to the third bend where Tagalong Hawkeye 3/1 went through on the fence to poach a slender lead. Airmount Speed joined in the action off the home turn but digging deep the Dermot Flynn owned ‘Tagalong’ hit the line a length in front of ‘Rastafari’ with ‘Airmount’ just behind in third. Time 29.14.
Race 2, A6/A7 525: Minglers Button disputed the early running with Willmount Daisy but assuming control of matters off the second bend the Oliver McGrath owned ‘Willmount’ 6/4 was soon on her way to winning out. Keeping on well up front ‘Willmount’ went on to defeat ‘Minglers’ by three lengths in 29.60.
Race 3, A5/A6 525: After first bend traffic issues Husky Kingo was left in the lead up front from Carrigoe Yaya. Owned by Derek Wilde 4/1 shot ‘Carrigoe’ gradually reeled in the leader eventually getting up close home for a deserved half a length win over ‘Husky’ in 29.78.
Race 4, A3 525: The early paced Minglers Merry made a brave bid to lead all the way but over the final two bends the Willie Brennan owned Ardera Les 4/1 (21/1 on the tote) made relentless late headway. Striking the front off the fourth bend ‘Ardera’ stayed on strongly for a three lengths success over a running on Genuine Bling in a best of night 28.92.
Race 5, N1/N2 525: Despite charting a middle to wide course throughout the Ian and Olive Morrissey owned Rathsilla Flo Jo 3/1 made every stride a winning one in 29.73. Bumping a challenging Nans Primrose at the first corner ‘Rathsilla’ quickly set sail for home. In a one sided affair ‘Rathsilla’ proved three and a half lengths to good for Hilldun Rose.
Race 6, A4 525: The Stephensdaysix Syndicate owned and Nick Turner trained Call Me Rocket 6/4 ran riot over the opposition opening his account in 29.30. Packing to much early speed for the opposition ‘Call’ was never out of his comfort zone en route to a cosy four and a half lengths defeat of Skyview Star.
Race 7, A6 525: See introduction.
Race 8, A6 525: See introduction.
Race 9, A4 525: 4/1 shot Running Wild defeated some better fancied opponents recording her second race success in a career best 29.09. Dashing into an early lead on the fence ‘Running’ never saw another rival on her way to a well deserved three and a half lengths victory over Missions Luck. The winner is owned by Tony and Larry Power.
Race 10, A2 525: Returning after a break the Gerry Kiely owned Airmount Cher 6/4 made every stride a winning one to triumph in a decent 28.98. Ballyhi Bucko was closing all the way to the winning line but a determined ‘Airmount’ held firm to emerge victorious by half a length.
