Following the launch of next year’s event, which took place on Thursday week last at WIT Arena, excitement builds around the announcement of a new route planned for 2017 which will take in the two bridges of the city, Rice Bridge and Thomas Francis Meagher Bridge on the N25.
Organisers are confident the new route will attract many more runners to the city as they offer a unique opportunity to enjoy some of the city’s finest scenery by foot. Chairman Des Whelan says ‘This has been a long sought after route for Waterford Viking Marathon and thanks to the co-operation of Celtic Roads Group and Waterford Council we are very excited to have secured access to the spectacular bridge over the River Suir, through the Toll Plaza and onto the Waterford Greenway. In addition, the all new WIT Arena will play host to our finish line event which offers runners top class facilities after the race. ‘
