All-Ireland SHC Semi-final: Waterford v Kilkenny: Score by Score

1 – 15 mins Kilkenny attack from the start from the throw in. Stephen O’Keeffe picks up breaking ball and clears to Moran who passes to Pauric Mahony who in turn picks out Jake Dillon to send over a great opening point. Austin Gleeson concedes a foul on Buckley in midfield and T. J. Reid levels the tie. Conor Gleeson clears to Shane Bennett who is fouled by Prendergast and Pauric Mahony points. Austin Gleeson wins great ball, is penalised harshly for overcarrying when being fouled himself and Reid sends over the free. Waterford are doing well under O’Keeffe’s long puck outs and Shane Bennett places Pauric Mahony for a great point from play. Richie Hogan wins Murrphy’s puck out and the teams are level for the third time in seven minutes. Austin Gleeson forces a ‘65’ and Mahony puts Waterford back into the lead. Again Hogan replies for Kilkenny and in the 12th minute Colin Fennelly gives his side the lead for the first time. Michael Walsh is fouled on the ball and Mahony levels matters. Austin Gleeson gets on to the breaking ball in a Waterford attack and puts hi sside back into the lead. A chance of a goal for Waterford as Bennett combines with Dillon but Dillon strikes for the point and Hawkeye confirms his effort wide.
16 – 25 mins. – Colin Dunford loses possession and Prendergast picks up the ball and places Hogan for his second point and the equaliser. Michael Walsh wins the puck out and places Pauric Mahony for his second point from play. Walter Walsh picks up a yellow card for a foul on Jamie Barron and Mahony points the free from midfield. Michael Walsh gets back to win the Kilkenny puck out, passes to Austin Gleeson who makes ground and lays off to Moran following up and the captain puts Waterford into a three point lead in the 19th minute. Walter Walsh picks up breaking ball and sends over a Kilkenny point. A goal chance for Waterford as Jake Dillon releases Shane Bennett along the end line from the left corner but he is crowded out as he moves towards goal, loses possession and the ball is cleared to Richie Hogan who pulls back a point. A Conor Gleeson clearance is intercepted by Buckley who places Michael Fennelly for an equalising point. Austin Gleeson makes a great catch from O’Keeffe’s puck out and strikes for a great point. Philip Mahony is fouled and Pauric sends over another long range free. Paul Murphy concedes the free under pressure and Mahony again makes it a three point game in the 25th minute.
26 – 25 mins. – Water Walsh is fouled after Austin Gleeson loses possession and Reid pulls a point back. O’Keefe collects from De Burca and clears. Moran makes a great catch, is fouled and Mahony restores the three point lead. Another great fetch by Moran from the Kilkenny puck out but his delivery is intercepted by Paul Murphy who sends Colin Fennelly away. The Ballyhale man is fouled and Reid points. John Power is fouled going forward and again Reid is on target from the free to leave a point between the teams. Padraig Walsh is wide for Killkenny, Moran is yellow carded for a foul on Kieran Joyce and Eoin Murphy is wide from the long range free. Waterford go in at the break with a 0 – 13 to 0 – 12 lead and after the intervention of the linesman Barry Coughlan and T. Reid receive yellow cards for a slight altercation as the teams leave the field at the break.

Second Half
36 – 50 mins. – Maurice Shanahan replaces Dunford in the Waterford attack and on the restart Pauric Mahony sends low to Shane Bennett who is fouled and Mahony points the free. A let off for Waterford as Walter Walsh appears to be clearly fouled near the end line but the free goes to Waterford and O’Keeffe’s free is broken down by Bennett for Gleeson who sends over fropm the left wing. Reid wins the puck out, is fouled and points the free. Padraig Walsh breaks forward and sends a back pass to Conor Fogarty who sends over his first point. The puck out breaks to Dillon who sends over his second point.Hogan is fouled by Shane Fives and Reid again points the free. Moran pushes forward into the forward position, collects a pass from Mahony but shoots wide. Dillon sends Moran through on goal but he runs out of road under pressure and over the end line before he can get his stroke in. Kilkenny level the tie yet again in the 45th minute as Reid points following a foul on Hogan in midfield. Eoin Larkin replaces Jonjo Farrell in the Kilkenny attack. Maurice Shanahan picks out Austin Gleeson who puts Waterford back into the lead with a great point off the stick. Michael Walsh again sends Pauric Mahony away for a point and in the 49th minute Maurice Shanahan is fouled on the left wing and Pauric Mahony sends over the free confirmed by Hawkeye for a three point lead again. Maurice Shanahan makes it a four point lead as he follows up with a point.
51 – 60 mins.A De Burca pass goes astray and Eoin Larkin takes advantage to send over a point. Waterford reply with Jake Dillon passing to Pauric Mahony who sends over. Patrick Curran Shane Bennett in the Waterford attack as Richie Hogan sends wide. O’Keeffe’s puck out is won by Pauric Mahony and he picks out Austin Gleeson who sends over his fifth point for a five point lead in the 53rd minute. Kilkenny fight back as T. J. Reid sends over a ‘65’ and follows up with appoint after De Burca fouls Hogan. Cillian Buckley is wide and from the puck out Michael Walsh sends Curran in for a point. Conor Gleeson receives a yellow card for a foul on Hogan and Reid points in the 60th minute.
61 – 70 mins. – Brian O’Halloran replaces Jake Dillon and Patrick Curran and Pauric Mahony are wide with good chances. O’Halloran is wide and Moran’s effort is signalled for a point by the umpire but the decision is overruled by Hawkeye, a crucial decision in the 67th minute. A minute later comes the defining score of the game as Jamie Barron breaks clear out of defence but is forced to release the ball under pressure and it falls to Colin Fennelly who spots Walter Walsh on the overlap, unloads and Walsh finishes to the net past the onrushing Stephen O’Keeffe to level the tie. The game is now there to be won or lost as Gleeson sends a side line cut just wide. The Kilkenny backs are pushing outfield and the Waterford front men are with them leaving an amount of empty space in front of the Kilkenny goal and Waterford clearances are being returned into the Waterford half. With five minutes of added time signalled, Waterford regain the lead in the 72nd minute when Jamie Barron was brought down by Colin Fennelly and Mahony pointed. The lead is short lived as a short puck out is passed on to Conor Fogarty sends over a great equaliser from midfield. With time running down Jamie Barron races clear but his hand pass goes directly to Paul Murphy but to the relief of Waterford supporters the Danesfort man’s massive shot from inside his own half drift just to the right and wide. The final whistle sounds and it is off to Thurles on Saturday next.
