INDEFINITE strike action is planned at Waterford Regional Airport from Wednesday next in response to what the trade union Unite describe as a unilateral cut in hours for its members.

Announcing the planned action the union said that the strike will comprise a full withdrawal of labour and placing of pickets, and will be of “indefinite duration.”

The move follows management’s decision to slash workers’ hours from 39 to 21 hours per week without agreement, coupled with their refusal to allow workers into their place of work to work their currently agreed rosters – a refusal tantamount to a lockout.

Commenting, Unite Regional Officer Tony Kelly said: “Management can resolve this dispute immediately by reversing their unilateral decision to slash workers’ hours, allowing our members back in to work, and engaging meaningfully with Unite on a way forward for Waterford Regional Airport.”
