Kilcohan Park – Saturday June 25th
An interesting nine race card featured semi-finals of the Crokers Champ at Stud Open unraced stake plus four heats of the Droopys Stud A2/A3 Bitch event.
Running in the first semi-final of the unraced event Coolavanny Zebo 4/6 came from off the pace to win going away in a red hot 28.40. Lads Eske set the early fractions but recovering well from a moderate start ‘Coolavanny’ drove into the lead on the fence between the closing two bends. Once in front ‘Coolavanny’ drew clear to defeat ‘Lads’ by six and a half lengths.
Race 1, A4 525: In a close run opening contest Dannys Gutty 2/1 did well to overcome a first bend bump to grab a third bend lead from Minglers Merry. Staying on strongly thereafter ‘Dannys’ hit the winning line six lengths clear of Stripe Moon in 28.96.
Race 2, A3 525: The Jim Curran owned Shan Paddy the 4/6 hot pot made no mistake leading all the way in 29.05. In front from trap rise ‘Shan’ was never in any danger romping to a three and a half lengths defeat of Alien Jane.
Race 3, NO 525: See introduction.
Race 4, NO 525: The second unraced qualifier saw Jumeirah Larry 1/1 gain a last gasp win in 28.88. Unable to go the early pace with Mustang Rebel ‘Jumeirah’ pounced in the dying strides to get the better of ‘Mustang’ by a neck.
Race 5, A2/A3 525: Heat one of the A2/A3 Bitch competition saw the warm 4/5 favourite Genuine Pearl make every yard of the running to credit owner Tina Finn and trainer Willie Finn with another success in a sprightly 28.49. Dictating matters throughout ‘Genuine’ was not extended proving four lengths to good for Barnfield Angel who raced in second place throughout.
Race 6, A2/A3 525: Heat two saw a slick starting Ballintee Annie 5/2 make every stride a winning one for trainer Peter Cronin in a career best 28.54. Dashing into an early lead ‘Ballintee’ never saw another rival en route to a two and a half lengths defeat of Daring Tavern.
Race 7, A2/A3 525: The penultimate qualifier saw the 4/5 favourite Heavens Lilly run riot over the opposition in an excellent 28.42. Firing herself into an early lead over Outlier Lively ‘Heavens’ increased her advantage as this heat wore on eventually accounting for ‘Outlier’ by all of nine lengths.
Race 8, A2/A3 525: The concluding heat saw the fast starting Show Bizzy 2/1 run out a clear cut winner for local owner Mary Whittle in 28.64. Accelerating into an early lead over Forest Mia ‘Show’ was never out of her comfort zone en route to a cosy four lengths defeat of Lifes Queenie.
Race 9, A1 525: Making good use of his early speed Team Will 5/1 (16/1 on the Tote) defeated some better fancied opponents obliging in 28.98. Easing his way into an early lead over Jacks Drico ‘Team’ dug deep in the closing stages to see off a fast finishing Annacurra Jet by half a length.
Going rating. Standard.
