GARDAIĀ are appealing for witnesses following a report of an assault in Ballybeg at approximately 2.50pm yesterday.

The incident took place on the green area near Priory Lawn and Gardai found the injured party at a house in Ardmore Park.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to University Hospital Waterford by ambulance before being transferred to University Hospital CorkĀ later in the day. He suffered lacerations to the hand, particularly the thumb and the two fingers nearest to it. He remains in the Cork hospital in a stable condition.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the incident and appealing for witnesses.
